More housing with increased railway traffic?

The phrase "we’re moving to the country" is passé. Nowadays many dream of being able to afford to live close to the centre of one of Germany’s ‘swarm cities’, and Frankfurt is considered to be one of these. The politicians’ response is simply to increase the amount of housing. But cities in particular lack available sites, and widespread gentrification results in prohibitive prices, causing an inevitable bottleneck in the housing market.

However things can be done differently, as demonstrated by German-speaking Switzerland, and the metropolitan area of Vienna. A massive and rapid expansion of the public transport system, reaching far into the region has made suburban sites suddenly of interest for housing development because journey times to the centre of town have been significantly reduced. But could this concept also work in the greater Frankfurt/Rhine-Main area?
